Our Weekly Meal Plan!! - #mealplanningmonday

Last weeks meal plan went pretty well....After the parents evening for Ellie we skipped the chip shop tea and chose to have a Chinese instead....It felt like such a treat.

On Saturday night we had burgers....The girls and I had ours early and my fella made his own when he got in from work....I wish I had waited for him to make mine. hehehe

It is half term here this week so the girls are home all day....The fridge is full in preparation and I am planning on getting the girls to help with the cooking....They love to help out in the kitchen.

This week on the menu we have:

Monday - Chicken and mushroom omelette....
Tuesday - Meatloaf with roast potatoes & veg.
Wednesday - Ham, eggs and curly fries....
Friday - Fish and chips....
Saturday - Pizza....
Sunday - A roast dinner of some sort.....

What are you eating this week?

Fantastic Villain Costumes. Day 22 of #Blogtober17

I am taking part in Blogtober17 and will be writing posts with various themes/prompts throughout October...Today's prompt is: Villains and Superheroes

With Halloween coming up I was thinking of fancy dress costumes. I don't like dressing up for Halloween but I do like looking at costumes....

Obviously there are a lot of Superhero costumes but I didn't think there would be many villain ones until I started looking! These are my favourites....

Deadpool Girl - Adult costume - £32.99 - Party Delights
Wicked Witch Costume - £22.99 - Escapade

Classic Catowoman Costume - £37.99 - Halloween Costumes
Queen of hearts costume - £22.99 - Jokers Masquerade
Poison Ivy costume - £32.99 - Escapade

If you were to be a villain who would you dress up as?

A photo everyday for a year - Week 42 #Project365

We have had quite a busy week....Well busy compared to what we are used to. We've had a parents evening, harvest festival, a welly walk and a couple of exciting deliveries....

Now for a photo every day...

272/365 - 14th October
These two were watching scary films...I had my headphones on hiding behind my laptop screen.

272/365 - 15th October
Enjoying a lazy Sunday.

272/365 - 16th October
Monday was the day of the freaky sky. It was nearly dark in here at 2pm in the afternoon.

272/365 - 17th October
On Tuesday I was watching This Morning and they showed everyone how to make the poached eggs. This was the first time I have ever made nearly perfect poached eggs...

272/365 - 18th October
I had a very exciting delivery on Tuesday but didn't get chance to open it

272/365 - 19th October
I love this time of year....I keep finding Christmas lists Ellie has written.

272/365 - 20th October
Another exciting delivery. A box full of East and South-east Asian snacks from Chimasu to review.

My unusual crush - Day 21 of #Blogtober17

I am taking part in Blogtober17 and will be writing posts with various themes/prompts throughout October...Today's prompt is: Unusual crushes....

This prompt seems pretty perfect for this weekend.....My big crush returns to TV soon. Sunday night in America and Monday night here in the UK. If you are not a fan of The Walking Dead you probably want to give this post a miss or if you are behind with the series there may be spoilers! Beware!

My biggest crush at the moment is Negan from The Walking Dead.....

Yes he killed one of my favourite characters in show....Abraham! He may have been my unusual crush if he was still alive...RIP to Glenn too....He had ran his course though....

Negan is one of those characters that is so bad that he is entertaining to watch....He's an utter nutcase! He makes The Governor look like a pussycat! He's cruel, manipulative, brutal but he is also charismatic, has a sick sense of humour and a very cool leather jacket!....

His one liners are hilarious! The one that sticks in my head is what he said the the priest Father Gabriel. Holy crap! You are creepy as s**t, sneaking up on me wearing that collar with that freaky ass smile! He was creepy and did appear from nowhere. lol

I really hope over the new series we get to see some of his backstory....I have read about what happens to him in the comics. He had a wife who died of cancer in hospital at the start of Walkers appearing....I am betting that was the same hospital where Rick was in the first episode! Hmmm!

I was late getting into watching The Walking Dead.....My fella loved it from Day one but it took me until the episode where Lori gave birth to Judith in the 3rd series to become interested....I can't imagine not watching it now!

Why my teen doesn't like me. Day 20 of #Blogtober17

I am taking part in Blogtober17 and will be writing posts with various themes/prompts throughout October...Today's prompt is: Teenagers....

A couple of years ago I wrote a blog post about why my tween doesn't like me. I thought I would do an updated version....Becky turned 15 last month so is well into the teenage years now.

Back in 2015 Becky had never said she hated me....Wow! She has since, quite a few times. It's normal though. People keep telling me so and I remember saying it to my mother....I am still blaming the hormones....I know she doesn't mean it.

A couple of years ago I used to have to nag at her to go in the shower or bath....Now she will spend all day in there given the chance. She hates it when I tell her to get out of the shower. Even if other people are waiting to go in. I am just being mean. This is after a good half hour has passed it's not like she had just got in. lol....When it comes to having a bath she thinks it is her god given right to have a bath bomb....If I don't let her have one I am just being greedy and selfish.

I make Becky help around the house....Just little jobs like putting the dishes away, hanging the washing on the line or helping putting the shopping away. I think these are life skills which need to be taught.

I don't wash her clothes quickly enough! She complains when she leaves something on her bedroom floor and it isn't washed the next day....I keep telling her unless she brings her clothes downstairs or at least put them in her washing basket how am I meant to know they are dirty.....It's not like I'm even asking her to put them in the washer herself....

I shout when she has neglected to mention that she has homework.....Especially when it gets to about 8pm at night and she starts getting her school things out.....Grr! Obviously watching YouTube was more important than homework.

I won't let her walk upstairs or downstairs in her slippers.....They are big and clumpy....They are a serious accident waiting to happen. She has already tripped over in them several time....Becky has said I am too over protective and need to stop caring....I just can't do that.

I won't buy her an iPhone....Have you seen the price of them? That is a months rent!! She has a Samsung phone. One good enough for what she needs it for but according to her I depriving her....All her friends have one so she needs one too....

Becky hates it when I stop her snacking....I don't deprive her of food but sometimes she can see that I am in the middle of cooking tea and she goes to the fridge and picks at things 10 minutes before tea is ready!! Eesh!

I still won't let her watch Geordie Shore, Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad.....She still hates me for that. When she is at an age where she can watch them I will happily watch them with her....This does not amuse her. lol She thinks now she is 15 she can watch 15 rated films....Some of them are OK but she want's to see the horror film IT. No chance!

I won't let her go to the park with her friends....A few months ago in a park near us a 16 year old girl was raped....

I make her brush her teeth after every meal. Becky thought as soon as she got her braces off she wouldn't have to brush them as much...That came as a shock to

Becky hates it when I listen to "her" music, enjoy it and sing along.....I am frowned upon when I say I like The Bieber, Jake & Logan Paul, Ed Sheeran and dancing to Little Mix is a big no, no!

My girl knows everything and is always right......Of course in her 15 years of being alive she knows more than I do in my 37 years of being alive.....

It is challenging being a mother of a teenager but I wouldn't change it.....For every iffy moment we have we have at least 50 amazing, memorable moments.....Teen years are hard but they are totally worth it. I recently wrote a blog post about Why I love having a teenager. They are not that bad. hehehe

I have been planning. #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

This week has all been about planning.

The kids finish school today for half term and I have been planning what to do with them over the holidays. We have Halloween cake and biscuit mixes to make, some crafts to do. I bought some fab kits from Hobbycraft and I wished I'd bought one of everything I got the girls for myself....

I promised Ellie that I would take her to soft play. Ugh! What was I thinking. I hate soft play and we're also going to finally make slime!! I love the half term holidays as they are just the right amount of time to have some fun without getting bored....

On Tuesday we had Ellie's parents evening and I had a lovely chat with her teacher....I've seen her teacher lots since the beginning of term because of Ellie's suspected Autism so I am well aware of how she is doing but nice to be reassured that the teacher has our back and is looking out for Ellie. As we haven't heard anything back from the people we were referred to, the plan is to give them until the first day back at school and then ring them....Then keep ringing until I get somewhere.

Stu and I had a good chat about Christmas and we have decided what the girls are getting for Christmas as their main presents. Ellie smashing the screen on her tablet this week helped us come to the decision. lol We were just going to get the screen fixed but a new screen on Ebay is £14.99. We can get the next model up from her tablet for £49.99 so I think we're just going for the upgrade. So if Ellie's getting a new tablet we want to buy Becky something electronic and have decided to get her a new phone. We're hoping to get something in the Black Friday sales.

I have been taking part in #Blogtober17 and as I have all the prompts I have been able to write the blog posts up until the end of this month! Hooray which means I have been able to  get ahead in planning and writing blog posts for November and I even have one scheduled for December. lol I am feeling very organised.

Good and bad secrets. Day 19 of #Blogtober17

I am taking part in Blogtober17 and will be writing posts with various themes/prompts throughout October...Today's prompt is: Secrets.

I have been half following the news about Harvey Weinstein and one part of me isn't surprised that things like this happen in Hollywood but another part of me is shocked that so many people have came forward against this vile man now....Some have been keeping this a secret for years...

I was watching the news and Becky started talking to me...We got on about different types of secrets then Ellie joined in on the conversation and I felt like I was winning at parenting in the 10 minutes that followed.....

We talked about that there are the secrets which are really surprises....What Stu and the girls have got me for my birthday, what the kids are getting for Christmas or if we're going on a day out and how Stu and I keep it a secret from them until we are ready to leave.....That type of thing. The secrets that never stay secret for long....We decided that we are OK with those types of secrets...

We then got on about the secrets we shouldn't keep to ourselves....

I have always made it clear to my girls that if anyone asks them to keep a secret about anything including their friends and they are worried they should tell me....

Secrets their friends tell like "Shh, don't tell anyone but my nanna let me stay up past my bedtime" are OK. No one is coming to harm but if a friend told them that their nanna let them stay up past their bedtime because she was drunk on the couch. That is not OK.....

They know that if the secret can hurt someone or leave them in danger to tell me. They know to trust their instincts...I am confident that my girls don't keep secrets from me....I have always said that they can tell me anything and I’ll believe them....

We talked about how no one, not even someone they know well has the right to ask them to keep a secret....Not even an adult....Becky chirped up and said they have done about this at school and she told me how they had a talk about inappropriate touching and how if it happened you had to tell.....I went over it with Ellie and she said if anyone touched her where they shouldn't she'd kick them, scream and tell someone straight away.....I quite believe she would too!

I am so lucky that I have a good relationship with my girls....So different from when I was growing up. My mother made me and my brother keep her drinking a secret from my dad and the rest of the world. She would tell him she'd only had one glass of whatever when she'd had 4 and tell my brother and I to keep it a secret. He knew but we were often put in awkward situations....Lying about why she was still in bed into the afternoon and why she slurred her words.....Ugh! No child should ever be put in situations like that and I think that's why with my children we are an open and honest family.

My favourite way to relax. Day 18 of #Blogtober17

I am taking part in Blogtober17 and will be writing posts with various themes/prompts throughout October...Today's prompt is: Relaxation

One of my favourite ways to relax is to have a lovely bath with a bath bomb....Recently I have started having a soak in the bath during the day. Ellie walks home from school herself so once I've done the morning school run I can be in for the day so there's no rush to dry my hair...

I have mentioned before about my love of bath bombs....As much as I love other places to buy bath bombs I always find myself going back to Lush! There is something special about their products....I was there a few weeks ago and I was hugely disappointed that they didn't have their Halloween stock in....Hmmf! Tomorrow is payday and I will be making an order....hehehe

Monsters' Ball - £4.50
This monster mash-up of lime and neroli oils is a sure fire way to get the party started. Toss into a hot bath and watch it go. Olibanum oil relaxes and leaves you feelin’ Franken-fine all night long.

Lord Of Misrule - £3.95
Revel in your bath with this mischievous bomb that features a spicy herbal blend of patchouli and black pepper oil. Inspired by the ruler of the pagan Feast of Fools, Lord Of Misrule has a deep green exterior that slowly froths away to reveal a rich, wine-coloured centre.

Pumpkin - £4.25
Serve yourself up a slab of sweet pumpkin pie, dripping in spice and sauciness - it's even more satisfying in bath bomb form. Sweet, comforting vanilla absolute and spicy cinammon evoke the rich, biscuity fragrance of home-baking and stacked desserts, ensuring that you feel toasty from top to toe.

My 2nd favourite way to relax is with a nice glass of wine....I only usually drink on a Friday and Saturday night and that first sip after a long week is absolute bliss....

I always stick to the same wines but swap and change what I have depending on my mood....

Blossom Hill White Zinfandel is go to wine. I drink it most weekends.....Tesco Fruit Twist Peach And Pineapple is a bargain for £3.00 and it tastes so good...I loved it in the summer as well as the Echo Falls Fruit Fusion Rasberry And Cassis....Martini Asti Spumante Non Vintage is a treat for special occasions and Baileys Original Irish Cream is something which I buy when it's on offer....hehehe

And my 3rd favourite way to relax is to stay in my pj's which happens most weekends...As soon as the kids are home and their homework is done I put some pj's on and the only time I get changed is into clean pj's....hehehe

How do you like to relax?

Make Your Own Chocolate Pizza Kit - Review!

At the end of August we were sent a fab selection of gifts and toys from What 2 buy 4 kids to try and one of those gifts was the Make Your Own Chocolate Pizza Kit. My girls love pizza and chocolate so this was just perfect.....Becky had the honours of making it....

The pizza kit contains everything kids need to make a delicious 7-inch pizza made from chocolate, including a pizza mould and top quality ingredients.

I imagined the pizza mould the be a cheap plastic bowl but it's not it's actually a metal bowl....

You simply melt the chocolate in the microwave then decorate with sweets provided and white chocolate curls....

The chocolate did take longer than instructed to melt in the microwave but I just put that down to the fact it was a cold day....

It was so simple to make and Becky needed no instruction from me.....We popped it into the fridge and left it to set. After 20 or so minutes you are supposed to go back and cut it into slices so it is easy to eat...We forgot. Oops.

Later that night the girls wolfed it down....They loved it. They let me have a taste and it was certainly delicious...

The chocolate pizza costs £12.99 and I would say it is well worth the money. It would make a great gift for someone for Christmas!

We were sent the Make Your Own Chocolate Pizza Kit free of charge. This is our review.

Lessons to be learned from the movies. Day 17 of #Blogtober17

Movies do so much for us. They make us laugh, cry, see us through the hardest of times and they have the ability to inspire and empower us.....

These are some of my favourite quotes....

Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim.
Finding Nemo

There should be no boundaries to human endeavor. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there’s life, there is hope.
The Theory of Everything

If everybody were like everybody else, how boring it would be. The things that make me different are the things that make me, Me!"
Winnie the Pooh

Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. If one only remembers to turn on the light.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.
The Godfather II

Oh yes, the past can hurt. But you can either run from it, or learn from it.
The Lion King

Don’t ever let somebody tell you can’t do something, not even me. Alright? You dream, you gotta protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you can’t do it. If you want something, go get it. Period.
The Pursuit of Happyness

It ain't about how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done.

Venture outside your comfort zone. The rewards are worth it.

Life is not the amount of breaths you take it’s the moments that take your breath away.

Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it doesn't get you anywhere.
Van Wilder

After a while, you learn to ignore the names people call you and just trust who you are.

There’s no place like home.

My biggest fears. Day 16 of #Blogtober17

I am taking part in Blogtober17 and will be writing posts with various themes/prompts throughout October...Today's prompt is: Phobias

When I started writing this blog post I didn't think I was scared of much apart from the usual things like spiders, clowns and heights but when I started thinking more about phobias it turns out I am one big scaredy-cat by every day normal things.....

Washing glasses in the sink.

When I was a teenager I was washing the dishes and put my hand in the glass with the sponge and the glass shattered and I cut my knuckle quite badly.....I am left with an inch long scar and since then I do everything I can to get out of washing glasses.

I haven't had much luck with hospitals....I had my appendix out when I was 18 and had an allergic reaction to the anesthetic which left me being sick for nearly a week....When I was having Ellie they messed the spinal up. Then there is the whole drama with the kids hearts. When I'm being sensible I know that the doctors and hospitals are there to help but I have felt let down by them missing my girls heart defects for years....I always think now when we go for their check ups, what if they have made a mistake again!

Trying on clothes in shops.

Have you ever tried on something and got stuck in it? I have came very close and it panicked me so much. Now I won't try anything on in shops unless it's shoes or coats. lol

Speaking on the phone.

I will only willingly speak on the phone to my fella, Becky, my dad, his girlfriend and my Aunty Jean. Everyone else get's text messages, emails or Facebook messages....If people ring me I am not to bad but I will rarely ring someone...

When I make a phone call I have to write down what I am going to say....I have to build myself up to it for at least 10 minutes and if I can I will get out of it....

Not having the internet.

As a blogger I do worry what would happen if our internet suddenly went off...I use the internet for everything. Shopping, paying bills, speaking to friends and family, finding out information, watching TV shows and of course blogging. Eek!

Our Weekly Meal Plan!! - #mealplanningmonday

Last weeks meal plan went well until the end of the week....We had fish & chips on Friday night which was a lovely treat....

Over the past couple of weeks I have realised that after Ellie has finished football practice on a Monday tea has to be on the table or she gets really hangry! So I will be aiming to have it nearly ready when she comes in....

This week we have a parents evening for Ellie at something to six so we will have a snack after school then maybe call into the chip shop on the way home from school...

This week on the menu we have:

Monday - Chicken stir fry....
Tuesday - Chip shop tea.
Wednesday - Sausage stew....
Thursday - Fish finger wraps....
Friday - Sandwiches, snacks and cakes....
Saturday - Burgers in buns with corn on the cob & fries....
Sunday - A roast dinner of some sort.....

What are you eating this week?

Three peas in a pod. #MySundayPhoto #Blogtober17

I am taking part in Blogtober17 and will be writing posts with various themes/prompts throughout October...Today's prompt is: Old Photos

This is the perfect prompt for today with it being My Sunday Photo day.....

People say my girls and I look so alike but you don't realise how much until you get a photo of each of us around the same age in nearly the same pose.

A photo everyday for a year - Week 41 #Project365

We have had a quiet week this week....Just plodding on with life hence the rubbish photos but I still managed one every day.

266/365 - 7th October
Saturday night sweets....The boxes of chocolates were on offer for £2 so the girls got a box each.

267/365 - 8th October
I had the last Chicago Town Salted Caramel pizza. They are so good but very, very sweet.

268/365 - 9th October
I hate putting the washing away and always leave it to pile up. I need to put it away more!

269/365 - 10th October
We got the proofs for Becky's school photos. We went with option B. The one with her arms folded.

270/365 - 11th October
I came so close to not taking a photo today.....I was playing an online game Hearthstone before I went to bed, was changing my deck of cards and took a photo to remind me of what cards I had....This will have to do.

271/365 - 12th October
Soup for tea. Ellie had ham sandwiches to dip in.

272/365 - 13th October
I came home from having coffee with friends to see my fella had started painting the living room....It needed doing but we weren't planning to do it so soon. Oh well. It's done now. lol

50 Books to read before you die.... Day 14 of #Blogtober17

I am taking part in Blogtober17 and will be writing posts with various themes/prompts throughout October...Today's prompt is: Novels

This prompt panicked me.....I am not a reader! Well I do read blogs and lots of them but now I rarely read books....

I don't have time for reading but do listen to audio books....When the kids are at school and Stu is at work I will listen to a book....I always seem to busy to sit down and read an actual book....

Last Saturday night I came up with the genius idea of finding a list of books to read before you die to see how badly I did at reading them but I surprised myself.

1. The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien
2. Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
3. His Dark Materials, Philip Pullman
4. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams
5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, JK Rowling
6. To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
7. Winnie the Pooh, AA Milne
8. Nineteen Eighty-Four, George Orwell
9. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, CS Lewis
10. Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë
11. Catch-22, Joseph Heller
12. Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë
13. Birdsong, Sebastian Faulks
14. Rebecca, Daphne du Maurier
15. The Catcher in the Rye, JD Salinger
16. The Wind in the Willows, Kenneth Grahame
17. Great Expectations, Charles Dickens
18. Little Women, Louisa May Alcott
19. Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Louis de Bernieres
20. War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy
21. Gone with the Wind, Margaret Mitchell
22. Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone, JK Rowling
23. Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets, JK Rowling
24. Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban, JK Rowling
25. The Hobbit, JRR Tolkien
26. Tess Of The D'Urbervilles, Thomas Hardy
27. Middlemarch, George Eliot
28. A Prayer For Owen Meany, John Irving

33. The Pillars Of The Earth, Ken Follett
34. David Copperfield, Charles Dickens
35. Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl

37. A Town Like Alice, Nevil Shute
38. Persuasion, Jane Austen
39. Dune, Frank Herbert
40. Emma, Jane Austen
41. Anne Of Green Gables, LM Montgomery
42. Watership Down, Richard Adams
43. The Great Gatsby, F Scott Fitzgerald
44. The Count Of Monte Cristo, Alexandre Dumas
45. Brideshead Revisited, Evelyn Waugh
46. Animal Farm, George Orwell
47. A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens
48. Far From The Madding Crowd, Thomas Hardy
49. Goodnight Mister Tom, Michelle Magorian
50. The Shell Seekers, Rosamunde Pilcher

I have actually read 18 of them....Yes quite a few were when I was at school but I have read them in book form. I can still remember reading Animal Farm at school. It was so traumatizing! That is not a nice book at all....

Apart from the Fifty Shades of Grey books the Harry Potter series were the last books I read. I actually prefer the books to the films....

There is others which I have seen the film of....Like The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit....

How many of the 50 books have you read?
