I don't have a mother....

Well technically I do....There is someone out there who gave birth to me and brought me up.....but to me she does not exist....

My mother and father were happily married until 2003 when my mother decided to run away with a man she had only ever spoken to on the internet! She moved to Scotland to be with him and the day she met him in person she moved in with him.....

I won't go into detail about what she did when she left but my dad was left with nothing.....She cleared their life savings out of the bank accounts and moved in with that man!

Things were found out about the man she ran away with.....My dad and I found a lot of newspaper articles about him appearing in court for several different crimes.....Again I can't go into detail....I don't want to get myself into trouble....He was not someone I trusted especially not with my parents life savings.....

When I was told by my mothers new partner who I had never met and barely spoken to that I had to choose between my mam and my dad things really turned sour....She tried to blackmail me to move to Scotland as long as it was just Becky & I, she tried to blame everything on my dad and there was a lot of threats.....One of the funniest threats I had was that she would go to court to get custody of Becky as I was unstable because I was Googling her new partner.....lol I had my own home, I lived with Becky's father and Becky was well cared for. There was no issue.....I wasn't the one who ran off to a different country with a man I didn't know....Who's the unstable one there?....I had to constantly tell her and him to leave me alone eventually threatening them with the police....That scared them off!!

Well until a few years ago when she emailed me just after Ellie was born.....She was all nicey, nicey to me.....I told her I would talk to her but wanted nothing to do with her partner.....All I wanted was for her to admit what he had appeared in court for.....She wouldn't so that was that!!

I do have a point to this blog post.....

I am totally over the fact my mother isn't in my life but this week has been hard....I'm not sad I'm just annoyed and angry that my mother has made me feel this way about her....It's made me feel jealous of those who have mothers....I hate feeling like this...It always seems to hit home this time of year but this year has been a bit harder....

And to top it all.....This is the first time around mothers day that I have really been entering competitions on twitter...It has annoyed me....To win a prize tell us why you love your mum, why she's the best?.....I nearly replied to one describing my mother in 5 words....Not nice words either....lol

There will be no bridges built......Too long has passed....I'm happy without my mother in my life 99% of the time....I have my Aunt who has taken over the role of a mother figure in my life and the grandmother role to my girls...I have my dad's partner to chat about the girly things and Bon Jovi....hehehe I also have a few very good friends who I can go to for anything....Who needs a mother anyway....lol

I hope you all have a very Happy Mothers Day tomorrow....I hope you are spoilt rotten and spoil your mothers rotten!!

My girls went out shopping last night after school with the promise that I would be getting make up, jewels, chocolate and a new laptop....lol I wish!!.....They did come back with a few bags which were hastily hidden away from me.....I honestly would be happy with a homemade card, a bit of a lie in (anything after 7am will do me) and breakfast in bed...

Friday 28 March 2014

Muddled....

My word of the week is.....

This week has been a bit muddled......Stu swapped his day off from work from Friday to Monday....We were supposed to be at the hospital for Ellie's hearing test but they didn't want to see her as she was full of cold and it would affect the results....So because he swapped his day off they messed with his shifts.....He usually works afternoons.....Not this week his shifts have been all over the place.....It's been one of those weeks where I haven't know what day it is!!

Ellie was good enough to share her germs with us so we've all been full of cold too which resulted in Stu letting me have a lie in on Wednesday even though he had a rubbish nights sleep too.....He did the school run and when I woke up at 10am my day was all muddled up.....The lie in was lovely and the uninterrupted soak in the bath was bliss.....Breakfast for lunch but I had to play catch up all day.....Wednesday was when our weekly meal plan went way off track....Feeling yucky and full of cold I didn't feel like cooking or eating.....Today hopefully we'll be back on track....We're all feeling a bit better and have our appetite back...

So this was the week which was all muddled up and we just muddled through....Next week please just let us have a week were we are germ free.....It would be nice to have a more positive word!!

Blog Your Heart Out.....

I saw this over on the lovely Laura's blog My Life As a Mummy ages and ages ago....I like things like this so thought I would do it too.....It's probably wrong to do it without being tagged but hey ho...lol

On with the questions....

Who/what encouraged you to start blogging?

Before I was a 'Blogger' I was a 'Comper' I loved entering competitions and giveaways....I still do!

I happened to stumble across blogs hosting giveaways..... Probably through the Money Saving Expert forum..... Sometimes when I found a giveaway there would be some other blog post which caught my eye and I would keep going back and reading those blogs....It got to a point where I read something online and wanted to rant about it....My girls did something great and I wanted to share it and I found a recipe I loved and wanted to share that too...Other people were doing these things why couldn't I....So I did and this is what you read now.....

How did you choose what topics to blog about?

I just blog about what I feel like....I tend to blog about a bit of everything but it always seems to be centered around my girls one way or another....

Tell us something people don't know about you?

Err....I'm stuck! lol I secretly love watching 'tween' shows like Good Luck Charlie, Ant Farm & Dog with a blog....Which is so funny!!

What three words describe your style?
Errm....Random, fun & my own....

What do you like to do when you're not blogging?

Entering competitions....I play stupid games like Candy Crush, Papa Pear Saga, Pet Rescue Saga on Facebook and I tweet a lot!!

I'm tagging everyone!!

Sage By Heston Blumenthal - The Smart Kettle - Review

If I have a kettle I expect it to boil water and that is it....I didn't even know that you boil water at different temperatures for different kinds of tea and coffee....I do now though thanks to winning the weekly #WinWeds giveaway that ao.com have on Twitter.....

I was lucky enough to win the Sage By Heston Blumenthal The Smart Kettle.....

It looks great!! Very fancy indeed! I love the sleek silver design and it feels so light compared to my old kettle....The handle is easy to grip and you can just feel the quality of it!!

This kettle is especially for a household where a lot of fine tea is being drunk.....The five temperature settings on this kettle are ideal for green, white, oolong and black tea as well as for coffee. These settings take the guesswork out of making the perfect cuppa.....

It has a rapid boil function and a 'keep warm' setting to hold the temperature of the water for up to 20 minutes which is great if you have guests over...

It seems to boil quicker than my old kettle and is a lot quieter....I like that fact that when it has boiled it beeps to let you know...

I like the feature of the lid...It has a slow opening feature which helps reduce the risk of boiling droplets escaping onto your hand and staggers the steam being released....I have found it easy to pour the water out.....There is no spillage especially when pouring it into a pan for pasta or potatoes....

At 1.7 litres the kettle holds enough water to suit the average family.....

If you are a big tea drinker who cares passionately about tea then this is perfect for you!!.....If you can afford it!!.....I personally wouldn't pay £89 for a kettle but that's just me....This is a luxury and would make an ideal gift for someone who already has everything and has plenty of time on their hands, and loves tea of course.....

I won this kettle in a giveaway and was sent it free of charge...This is my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own...

Five architectural gems in Northumberland...

Visitors to Northumberland will be pleased with the amount of architecture there is to discover. From impressive abbeys to stunning stately homes, there’s something to suit everyone in this beautiful part of the country.

Below you’ll discover the best five architectural gems not to be missed.

1. Alnwick Garden.

A decade ago, Alnwick Garden was actually a derelict site that had long been forgotten. However, visit it today and you’ll witness some of the most stunning architectural designs.

The garden showcases many different elements, with water features helping to bring life into the place. There are four different fountain displays and upon entering the garden you’ll be blown away by the Grand Cascade. The architectural features are breath-taking and well worth a look.

2. Brinkburn Priory.

The Brinkburn Priory has been referred to as one of the finest examples of early gothic architecture in Northumberland. The building dates all the way back to 1135. As well as a church, there’s also an impressive manor house on the grounds too.

Lovers of architecture will be in awe at the design of these buildings. It may even encourage you to invest in timber sash windows London to recreate the style you have seen.

3. Bamburgh Castle.

There’s something magical about walking around a castle. Taking you back to simpler times, you’ll get a feel of how the people of Northumberland once lived. Bamburgh Castle is located on a rocky plateau, offering stunning views over the coast. It is known to be one of the biggest inhabited castles in the UK.

4. Cragside.

The National Trust is known for offering some of the most impressive stately homes and properties in the country. Cragside is an attraction you won’t want to miss. The extraordinary Victorian house features plenty of intricate, beautiful architectural details. An interesting fact about this property is it was the first house to be lit using hydroelectricity.

5. Hadrian’s Wall and Housesteads Fort.

If it’s true architectural brilliance you’re looking to experience, Hadrian’s Wall and Housestead Fort is worth a trip. There are unique and interesting archaeological remains to be discovered and you’ll get to learn more about the fascinating history of the place. Again it’s a National Trust property so there will be a small admission fee to pay.

Northumberland is full of architectural brilliance. With so much to see and do, it helps to make an itinerary before you leave.

Our Weekly Meal Plan!! - #mealplanningmonday

What a few days.....On Friday I got a phone call from the girls school.....Becky had fallen over at playtime and fell flat on her face.....A bloody nose, it all swollen and grazes on it....We ended up in A&E for a few hours....As far as they can tell her nose wasn't broken but we have to wait for the swelling to go down to be able to tell properly....Becky was very brave and is fine now I'm glad to say!.....So by the time we got out of the hospital it was 1.30pm so it was fish & chips for lunch so the tea I'd planned of fish in butter sauce was out of the window.....We ended up with sandwiches, cakes and crisps....

We were supposed to be back to the hospital today with Ellie....She is 95% deaf in one ear (you can read about her last appointment here)....We had an appointment for a hearing test and a review but Ellie is full of cold....I've just got off the phone and the appointment is being rearranged as they won't test her when she's all stuffy....Ellie has been looking forward to getting McDonalds on the way home from the hospital so we're still going to get one from our local McDonalds.....I'm quite fancying one myself now....hehehe

So this week so on the menu we have...

Monday - McDonalds...
Tuesday - BBQ Chicken and rice....
Wednesday - Sausage, mushroom & tomato pasta....
Thursday - Giant yorkshire puddings filled with chicken, roast potatoes, veg & stuffing....
Friday - Fish in butter sauce with new potatoes, peas and sweetcorn!!....
Saturday - Gammon, chips, peas, pineapple & fried egg....
Sunday - Not a clue....But I'm not cooking it! I'm having Mothers Day off!!...

What do your TV viewing habits say about you?

I love watching TV.....I switch it on when I get up and it is on all day.....I mostly have it on for some background noise but there are a lot of shows I love to watch alone as well as shows we love to watch as a family....

At the moment I am of course loving the soaps, The Walking Dead, The WWE wrestling and I'm hooked on the Oscar Pistorius trial at the moment too....I managed to find an African news channel and I have seen every day so far live....It is so interesting.....Obviously he killed Reeva Steenkamp but they are trying to decide whether it was premeditated or just a tragic accident...I can't decide either way but it's got me well and truly hooked!!

Anyway.....

Have you ever wondered what your TV favourites say about you? TalkTalk has created a fun quiz to help you find out...They questioned families up and down the country to uncover what the nation enjoys most about telly, and see how the likes of catch up, the ability to pause, rewind and record live TV, and instantly watch on demand movies, sport and kids programmes have improved TV.

What was your result? My result was....

That sounds about right....

On a Saturday evening we do sit down as a family and watch tv....Usually You've been framed, Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway then The Voice which I've recorded.....The kids usually have a load of sweets or popcorn and Stu and I a couple of drinks....We make a night of it.....Saturday night is always our night for watching tv as a family.....If it's not Ant & Dec it's Britain's Got Talent, Doctor Who or The X-Factor which we can't wait to return....

When I was thinking about my favourite moments on tv I noticed that a lot have involved the Royal family in one way or another....They are moments that I am so glad that I have witnessed on tv....I've seen part of history happening!!

One of the first memories I have is of Prince Charles and Diana's wedding....I was only a few years old but can vaguely remember it....

Many years later I remember coming in very late from a night out and watching the devastating news about the death of Princess Diana....I watched it all unfold....How they speculated that Diana was just critically injured but it was not to be....Then came funeral.....Very emotional....Who can forget Elton John singing Candle in the wind.....

More recently it's all been about William and Kate there was the big royal wedding....They make such a lovely couple and her dress....Just beautiful!! Ellie wants one just like it when she gets married to a prince....Of course she knows she has to marry a prince to become a princess....While watching I had a million questions from Becky asking who everyone was....Google and Twitter came in very handy!! Then there was the whole waiting for the royal baby to arrive....Sky news was on most of the day.....lol

The Queen had a busy year in 2012 with the The Diamond Jubilee....We watched the concert from start to finish...What a show they put on.....

Who can forget Daniel Craig as James Bond escorting Her Majesty The Queen to the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics....By the end of the Olympics the girls had stopped asking for their programmes on the TV and just went with it enjoying the Equestrian events, gymnastics, Usain Bolt and the diving....

It's true when they say you can remember where you were and what you were doing when certain events happened....Yes I remember...I was always with my family watching these special moments happen on the tv.....hehehe

This is my entry into the Talk Talk/Tots100 blogging challenge. More details of this challenge can be found on the Tots100 website.

Vomit!

This week my word is...

Not the nicest of words but it better then puke, spew or barf.....

Over the weekend Ellie had a tummy bug....Which included her being sick like that girl on the film The Exorcist....She gives no warning she is going to vomit she just does.....

We thought she was ok after a day off school on Monday but Tuesday night she was sick again which resulted in another day off on Wednesday....

Eww!! I can't cope with vomit....I can deal with my own and that's it....Anyone else's and I'm useless.....If I see someone being sick I start to retch.....When I've been putting the vomit covered sheets in the washer I've had to run to the toilet as I thought I was going to be sick....I actually have a big fear of vomit!!

Last night Becky complained of feeling sick.....It was after eating her tea, a big bowl of trifle then some crackers and an apple and god knows what else.....I'm thinking she's just stuffed herself but she went to bed with a bowl and hasn't been sick so far!!.....Fingers crossed she isn't!!

We've not had the best week but we're all still smiling and touch wood we're all sick free now!!

The Mummy Tag!!

I have seen this meme on various blogs and fancied giving it a go.....Obviously it's meant to be done with younger children than my two but I will answer it the best I can....

  1. Are you a stay-at-home-mum or a working mum?
I'm a stay at home mum....

2. Would you have it any other way?
No....I know my girls are at school for the majority of the day but I wouldn't change a thing....I'm so lucky to be in a position where I don't have to go out to work....I don't have to miss a minute of my girls life....

3. Do you co-sleep?
There is the odd time where both my girls come into the bed for a cuddle but no.....If either of them slept in my bed there would be no room for us to sleep....They're all arms and legs....hehehe

4. What is your must-have item for your baby?
I don't think I could of managed without the vibrating baby bouncer.....

5. How many kids do you plan on having?
No more...lol I would have another but it's not worth the risk...We've been told by the girls heart specialists that the chances are that any more babies would have heart problems too especially if they were girls....

6. Date nights – how many a month?
Most Saturday nights after we've watched Ant & Dec and The Voice my fella and I kick the kids to bed and have a few drinks, watch a film and have a chat....That's the closest we come to date night...lol

7. Your child’s favourite show?
Ellie's is Topsy & Tim, Doc Mcstuffins and Sofia the First.....Becky's is Good Luck Charlie, A.N.T Farm and Friday download...

8. Name one thing you bought before you had your baby and never ended up using?
A breast pump and a baby sling....

9. Your child’s favourite food?
Pizza, McDonalds, Chinese.....All the foods which are not too good for you....

10. How many cars does your family have?
None....

11. Weight gain before pregnancy during and after and now?
No idea.....I don't weigh myself....lol I used to be a size 12/14 and I'm now a size 16....

12. Dream holiday with your kids?
Disneyland....Florida!

13. Dream Holiday without your kids?
A road trip around America visiting all the places featured on Diners, drive-ins and dives....

14. How has your life changed since your baby has been born?
I get less sleep.....We can't do things on the spur of the moment but we have lots of fun....Do things I would never think of doing before I had kids.....I wouldn't change it for the world....

15. Finish the sentence: ‘It makes my heart melt to see…’
My girls playing nicely...It doesn't happen very often...lol

16. Where do you shop for your kids?
Asda, Primark, Sports Direct.....

I don't wear make up every day or skincare products but at the moment I am in love with HealGel Eye and John Frieda's Frizz Ease which I'm reviewing at the moment.....

18. Huggies or Pampers?
Neither....I found Pampers useless and Huggies caused a rash....I preferred Boots own nappies!

19. Have you always wanted kids?
Yes I think I have....

20. Best part about being a mum?
Everything!

10 Things you forget to clean....

If you consider yourself a clean freak make sure you're also cleaning these things most people forget about.....

Your Keyboard

A 2008 U.K. study found that your keyboard is dirtier than a toilet seat....Eww!!! Your keyboard gets dirty for lots of reasons: not washing your hands often enough & eating and drinking near the computer....So every two or three months, give your keyboard a good cleaning. A light cleaning can be just spraying between the keys with compressed air and lightly cleaning the keys and surrounding areas with an alcohol-soaked cotton swab.

Washing Machine

Your washing machine probably isn't as nasty as some other things on this list, but it still needs some TLC. Your washer will stay mostly clean if you do a load of whites in hot water with bleach once a week, but you can still clean it once a month by running an empty load with hot water and bleach.

Your TV Remote

Think about everything that happens to your remote control in a day. You touch it, it gets lost behind the cushions, your 6-year-old sneezes or coughs on it... I could go on. According to research this is another one that has more bacteria than your toilet seat.....At least weekly, give it a good rubdown.....

Your Bins

Just because you line it doesn't mean it's not covered with germs. Every time you take out the rubbish spray the inside with some disinfectant. Every two weeks, scrub it out in the tub with bleach water.

Light switches and door handles

Next time you're doing the dusting don't forget to wipe down the light switches and door handles. They're rarely cleaned, but are touched by just about everyone in your home including guests....Clean them at least once per week and daily when someone in the house is sick.

Pillows

Even if you bathe and wash your hair at night before hitting the sack, you still sweat so your pillow can get pretty nasty. Not to mention what happens if you skip the shower a few times a month. If your pillows are machine washable, you should wash them on the gentle cycle in hot water with mild soap, then dry them on low...Just make sure they're really dry before you use them....This should be done every three to six months.

I'm no clean freak but admit I need to clean these things more!! Eww!! I feel so dirty now....lol

Poo-Pourri! - Review!!

When I received an email asking if I wanted to try Poo-Pourri I sniggered, thought it was a joke and deleted the mentioned email.....Then I went into the bathroom after Stu had been in there and thought I need to try it and get some relief from the smelly bathroom....Men do smell!!....hehehe

Poo-Pourri is a purse-friendly, discreetly-bottled, ‘before- you-go’ toilet spray....

The bottle is gorgeous! I really like the design on the label of the bottle....So funny!! You even get the little charm on the chain which is pictured....

When it arrived of course I sprayed it onto my hand to see what it smelled like.....The only way I can describe it is that it smells like the Locket throat lozenges....

It works by works by forming a film on the surface of the water, coating anything that enters and trapping in the smell.....Simply spray Poo-Pourri into the bowl before you go.....When you flush it further releases the product's fragrance leaving the bathroom smelling lovely!!

To use: Shake the bottle....Lift the toilet seat....Spray 4 to 6 sprays of Poo-Pourri into the toilet bowl....Take a seat and do your business....Then flush!

Poo-Pourri is available in 15 fragrances and a 2oz bottle will last for approximately 100 uses which is quite a long time...

As ridiculous as I thought this product first was I am converted.....It actually works!! This product does what it says it does and prevents bathroom odor rather than just covering it up....It is much more pleasant odor than typical sprayed air fresheners and doesn't smell as strong as it does after being flushed than it did when I sprayed it on my hand....

This product might seem like a funny joke but I can tell you from experience that it makes sharing a bathroom a lot easier....Once you've had it on hand for a while, you won't want to be without it....It could be really handy if you work in an office environment..

This product is organic and environmentally friendly....The secret blends rely on natural, plant-derived essential oils to eliminate bathroom odors. There are no Harsh Chemicals, no Parabens, no Phthalates, no Aerosol, no Formaldehyde no Petroleum Distillates, no Ethanol and no Benzene....

This all means that it is safe for your septic system and of course the planet. In keeping with these ethics, Poo-Pourri never tests on animals (only on stinky humans).

If you have a second have a look at the launch video for it....It had me giggling....5.2 million views on YouTube in just over a week....Not bad!!

Family Fever
I was sent a bottle of Poo Pourri free of charge for the purpose of this review....This is my honest review....All thoughts and opinions are my own!!
