A trip to Amble.

Years ago we used to visit Amble at least once every few months....We haven't visited in such a long time. Last time I blogged about it was just under 4 years ago. Eek! Amble is a small seaside town on the Northumberland coast....

Last week while Stu was off work and the kids off school we had a day out to Amble......We first had a look around the shops. It has become so touristy. All the shops seem so expensive and the all the little cafes we used to frequent have gone to be replaced by expensive bistros and restaurants. I looked at the menu in one and a main of Surf & Turf was £29.50! Crazy!

Next stop was the best fish and chip shop in Northumberland.....The Harbour Fish Bar. That might be just my opinion but the queue was out of the door....I had my usual of 2 Beanies and half a portion of chips. In case you were wondering a Beanie is sausage meat filled with beans and wrapped in batter. Amazing!

We went and found a place to sit by the little beach and dug into our food with an audience of seagulls.....They are savage! I think if you held a chip in the air one would just come and take it.....lol

It didn't take the kids long to hit the beach....They were gone for about an hour, just mooching about. The tide was out and it created a little island which they had great fun running through the water to and back again.....They collected shells and stones and had a fab time....Stu and I did too....We simply sat on a bench, watched the world passing by and talked.....

Stu and the girls went off to explore the rock pools. It was a pretty poor show. They didn't see any crabs or anything like that....hehehe

On the way back to the bus we of course stopped for ice cream....Yum! Yum!

When we were half way home my arms started burning....It turns out I caught the sun more than I thought....Oops. I had sun cream on and still burned.....Stu was sent on a mission to get after sun lotion. On Thursday night I ended up sat with half frozen wet wipes on my arms....They felt amazing. Thankfully the girls didn't burn but they are very tanned.

  2. I love Amble, my grandparents moved their caravan there when I was a teen and I used to spend summer's there. I have never heard/ tried a beanie before, I do like the chippy in Amble though and it is always busy. Such a shame all the charming little shops and cafes have now closed down, I used to love them! xx

  3. It's amazing how a place can change in a flash. Old favourites gone. Good that the girls enjoyed exploring the beach. You'll have to go back again and hunt for the crabs.First time I've heard of a beanie. Have to look out for it on our local fish and chip. #CountryKids

  4. I've even heard of Amble right down here in Cornwall and would love to visit one day. It sounds like a delightful if touristy town but wow they know how to charge in the restaurants! I'm very curious about a beanie, I might have to try baking these, is it just baked beans in the middle? A lovely looking day, I hope that sunburn has gone down for you now.

Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids

    1. Oh wow! I didn't think people so far down the country would have heard of Amble.
A beanie is sausage meat with beans inside coated in batter and of course fried. I have tried to make them before but they end up not being cooked in the middle. Thank you.
Yes the sunburn has gone but I'm still peeling. lol x

  5. Apart from the sun burn, looks like a lovely day trip, especially when it ends with ice-cream and fish and chips. Perfect! :) #countrykids Dean of Little Steps

  6. Uh, I hate aggressive seagulls. I've never heard of beanies before.

Ouch to the burnt arm. N never seems to burn either thankfully (occasionally a bit red on his nose if he's not put his hat on). I reckon it's because his skin is used to sun gradually through the year, whereas mine is only the occasional lunch break.

  7. We used to love going to Amble when we were kids - do you remember the dolphin that used to live in the harbour? Your children look to have had a brilliant day out - ice cream plus fish and chips you can't beat that! #CountryKids

  8. Your sunburn looks painful! But I guess a proof of how much fun you had =)

Seagulls are really scary! I think I have phobia of them already especially when I am holding food. They are waiting to attack when they see a chance to snatch your food away.
